The CPI (M) has been in dire straits since leaving power in 2011.  In the 2021 elections, the West Midnapore district party, once known as Laldurg, has also suffered a setback with the entire state.  The party has also come down to zero in this district in the just concluded assembly elections.  The West Midnapore District CPI (M) has called for a more severe crisis in this unfortunate day of the party.  The district leadership is struggling to pay for the party.  The CPI (M) has started selling its assets to avoid this problem.  They have recently sold a large portion of the land purchased for the construction of 'Sukumar Sengupta Bhavan' in Keranitola area of Midnapore city.

Tarun Roy, secretary of West Midnapore district CPI (M), also admitted to selling the land due to financial constraints.  He said, 'Sukumar Sengupta was bought to build the building, that's not the point.  We bought a place.  That's right I sold it.  I borrowed a lot of money when I bought the place.  So we had to sell a part.  For various reasons, the party has become very indebted.  However, a 600-seat auditorium named after Sukumar Sengupta will be set up there.  A full-length statue of Sukumar'dar will also be installed.  There will be a place in his name.  Sukumar Sengupta is the founder of our party in this district.  We will not respect him, it cannot happen. '

What if the person who sold the place did some business on that place, which could lead to future controversy involving the name of the party?  The district secretary explained, 'Whoever bought the place has freedom.  However, usually if there is a bend in the road, a multi-storey building is built in that place.  I don't know what he will do.  But we know what we will use to build an auditorium in the name of Sukumar Dar.
